Description
The Espresso Martini is made with freshly brewed espresso, vodka, coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa), and a simple syrup or sugar syrup to balance the bitterness of the coffee. The ingredients are shaken with ice to create a frothy top layer, giving it an appealing and inviting look. It is known for its smooth, creamy texture and the deep, intense flavors of coffee.
History
The origin of the Espresso Martini dates back to the 1980s and is credited to British bartender Dick Bradsell. The story goes that Bradsell created the cocktail at Fred's Bar in London when a young model (some stories claim it was Kate Moss) approached him and asked for a drink that would "wake me up and then f*** me up." Using the espresso machine next to the bar, Bradsell combined coffee with vodka and coffee liqueur, resulting in the now-famous Espresso Martini.
Initially, the drink was named the Vodka Espresso, reflecting its straightforward blend of vodka and espresso. Over time, as the martini glass became synonymous with elegance and style in the cocktail world, the drink was rebranded as the Espresso Martini.
