The old pal is a cocktail originally made with rye whiskey, French vermouth (dry), and Campari. It is similar to a Negroni, but with rye whiskey instead of gin and dry vermouth instead of sweet.
History
The Old Pal was first mentioned in print in Harry McElhone's 1927 book, Barflies and Cocktails. It was a popular cocktail during the prohibition era, and has since seen a resurgence in popularity among cocktail enthusiasts.
