Description

The Mimosa's association with brunch has made it a symbol of leisurely weekend mornings and social gatherings. It’s particularly popular during holidays and special occasions, such as Mother's Day, Easter, and weddings. Its simplicity and elegance have contributed to its enduring popularity, allowing it to maintain its status as a classic cocktail.

History

The most widely accepted origin story places the creation of the Mimosa at the Ritz Hotel in Paris in 1925. It is said that Frank Meier, a bartender at the hotel, invented the drink. He named it "Mimosa" after the yellow-flowered mimosa plant (Acacia dealbata), which resembles the color of the cocktail. Another claim attributes the creation of a similar cocktail, known as the "Buck's Fizz," to the Buck's Club in London in 1921. The Buck's Fizz is made with the same ingredients but typically contains a higher ratio of Champagne to orange juice. Some believe the Mimosa is a variation of the Buck's Fizz, adapted with equal parts of Champagne and orange juice.
