New York Sour

Ingredients

2 oz Bourbon Whiskey
1/2 oz Red Wine (Optional)
1 oz Lemon juice

Garnishes

zest Orange

Glass

Rocks / Old Fashion

Preparation

Add the whiskey, lemon juice, simple syrup and egg white (optional) into a shaker with ice and shake hard until well-chilled. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice. Slowly pour the red wine over the back of a bar spoon so that the wine floats on top of the drink.

History

The origins of the New York Sour are unknown, but it's believed to have been created in the late 19th century. It became popular during the Prohibition era as a way to add a little extra flair to otherwise bland whiskey drinks. Today, it's a classic cocktail that's still enjoyed in bars and homes all over the world.
