History
The Hurricane Cocktail is believed to have originated in the 1940s at Pat O'Brien's bar in New Orleans, Louisiana. It was created as a way to get rid of surplus rum that was being produced in the Caribbean and quickly became a popular drink in the United States. The drink's name was inspired by the hurricane lamp-shaped glasses that it was served in, which are also known as hurricane glasses.
